Melvin Wrack, Founder of Divine Restoration Community Center

Melvin Wrack has a heart for the city of Detroit and in particular for his old neighborhood. His desire is to restore the area of W. Chicago between Schaefer and Wyoming back to its old glory days.

Melvin has seen the unfortunate plights of many friends of his youth and has personally been affected by domestic violence in childhood. At the age of four, Melvin’s father shot and killed his mother so he was ultimately raised by his grandmother under challenging circumstances. But Melvin has somehow come out of it with both a magnified heart and a drive that just won’t quit when it comes to lifting up his fellow brother.

Melvin left Mackenzie High School prior to graduation but later completed his
G.E.D. In lifting himself from the rough life of the streets, he went on to become active in church, run a successful income tax business and pursued many other business interests.

Despite his own tumultuous upbringing, Melvin has managed to raise three beautiful and talented children - Melvia, Seantae, and Daniel.  All of whom graduated high school and are currently attending college.

In 2014, Melvin founded the Divine Restoration Community Center where he provides a much needed source of hope to the community and a place for the homeless to get an occasional meal on ‘Chili Fridays’ or simply come out of the cold for a short time. He has also sponsored dinners and clothing drives. His big annual function includes a holiday dinner for homeless women and children.

Melvin's dream is to one day build a shelter for the homeless and to undertake the many concerns of the less fortunate by addressing every area of their lives using the fundamentals of Christianity.
